Audition and Selection Process

.High School SATB and SSA All State auditions will be merged into a single audition.

.Each school or group auditioning must provide their own accompanist in advance.  Accompanists will not be available onsite without prior arrangements.

.Accompaniment will be played on accompanied selections and all parts may be paid on a cappella selections (SATB or SSAA, not just the voicing of auditioning students if not a complete group).

.Auditioning students will learn their voice part on the designated audition repertoire. A specific section of the repertoire will be selected and posted at the audition site to perform for the judges.

.All students will audition on two designated selections of the SATB All State repertoire.

.Additionally, all women will audition on two designated selections of the SSAA All State repertoire.

.Auditions will be one on a voice part for each of the following, S1, S2, A1, A2, T and B.

.At least two adjudicators will hear each student and mark the scoring sheet.  The final score is the total of the adjudicators’ scores.

.Scores will be tabulated and students will be listed on each voice part according to their total score, highest to lowest.

.Students will be selected by their ranking in score.  Women ranked with numerical rankings with odd numbers (1, 3, 5, etc.) in the descending score list will participate in SATB All State and women ranked with numerical rankings with even numbers (2, 4, 6, etc.) in the descending score list will participate in SSAA All State.

.Scores nor audition sheets will be available after auditions as per Mississippi ACDA Board policy.  They will be destroyed immediately after auditions.

.Every effort will be made to allow women singers to retain their auditioned voice, however, divisi in SSAA All State may be adjusted by the chair when deemed necessary to accommodate balance.

.All students selected will go through another audition process, on-site, before the first rehearsal of All State to insure the remaining repertoire has been properly prepared.  Unprepared students will be dismissed when preparation of the music is inadequate in the second audition.
